We’ve come to the end of another Advent Season waiting with Joyful Anticipation at the coming of the Lord. We have focused on the promises God has made throughout this journey. We now come to Christmas realizing the beauty of Christ’s Incarnation. From this perspective we have a renewed understanding that God meets us on the journey, loving us through both the tribulations and struggles of life..
Henri Nouwen in his book Gracias speaks to this intimate relationship:
God came to us because he wanted to join us on the road, to listen to our story, and to help us realize that we are not walking in circles but moving towards the house of peace and joy. This is the great mystery of Christmas that continues to give us comfort and consolation: we are not alone on our journey.
The challenge is to let God be who he wants to be. Christmas is the renewed invitation not to be afraid and let him – whose love is greater than our own hearts and minds can comprehend – be our companion.
As you experience this renewed understanding of Christ’s presence the celebrations of Christmas season may you remember that in the midst of our busyness, we're invited by God to the foot of the manger and supported by Christ in journey of our lives.
On behalf of Kerry and Aidan, I wish you and your families a Blessed and Holy Christmas!
